Does it always rain in Copenhagen?

October 08, 2017 in Events, Photography, Travel

As I write this it is the day after the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk and I haven't felt any urge to head out today to take pictures even though there was good light for parts of the day at least. For the entirety of the walk through the streets of Copenhagen yesterday it rained, rained and then it rained even more! I don't think I've ever had to pour water out of the front of a camera before, but there definitely was some in my old Canon 50mm lens after the walk was done!

I'm on the way down the analog rabbit hole...

September 21, 2017 in Photography

During 2017 I have shot more and more film, all on Tri-X 35 mm film and I have enjoyed getting better and better at it. I am still not at the level where I am confident that I won't accidentally get an entirely black frame on the roll here and there, but I am getting there...slowly.

I've been asked why I shoot film when there's digital available and my answer to that has several parts. I do it because it forces me to slow down and think before I shoot. It's VERY easy to snap away like a lunatic with your DSLR and ending up with 700 pictures to go through (done it many times!).

Pick a few good ones!

August 13, 2017 in Photography, Post production, Exhibition, Events

My blogging “schedule” hasn’t been much of a schedule lately...nor blogging for that matter, but I figure that it’s probably better not to write anything until you feel you have something to share than to ramble on about stuff.

So I actually do have something to share today. This was brought on by a conversation I had yesterday during the one day event called “Linan” (The Line) in Malmö, Sweden. It’s a one day outdoor photo exhibition in a park that I’ve taken part in several times. This year I showed 13 12 x 16 inch images from last weekend’s Pride Parade here in town.

On to the conversation I hinted at...a spectator I’ve run into at several other one day events commented that I always share such good event photos; that I manage to capture the mood of an event well. That is of course high praise and I told him so, but it also got me thinking about editing, judging and selecting photos.

Back on the streets again...

July 14, 2017 in Photography

It's been awhile since the last blog entry on June 7th now hasn't it? Well, I've been away from a computer for a large part of that time so it's been a bit tricky to update. For the better part of the last three weeks I've been across the Atlantic pond visiting some very loved ones in Texas. I've had a fantastic time and long for the moment when I can see them again!

Industrial details in Copenhagen

June 07, 2017 in Photography

I did a day trip to the Copenhagen Photo Festival and while the actual exhibitions weren't exactly to my liking the location of the exhibitions at Photo City, the HQ of the festival provided a few interesting details. It was held in an old power station near some gasworks and the raw industrial feel in the somewhat gloomy rooms was definitely still there.

Everything is so vibrant!

May 31, 2017 in Photography

As much as I've been shooting black and white analog stuff this year (of which I've developed some but not yet scanned them) it's hard to deny that outside the window the colors are pretty much as vibrant as they're going to be...until the fall colors descend upon us in a few months' time.

Street Photography at the Market

May 15, 2017 in Photography

2017 has been an interesting year for me photographically so far. I don't think I've taken as few pictures with a digital camera since at least 2005. However I am not at all troubled by that, because I've done quite a bit of analog photography so far this year. I've yet to develop the films so it'll be interesting to see how bad I've managed to screw it up so far!

Exhibition time is here again!

May 05, 2017 in Exhibition, Photography, Post production, Project

Once again I am allowed to show my photos to the general public, in this case at a local hospital's cafeteria space. I thoroughly enjoy the process with exhibitions, from taking the photos, processing them, picking what photos to print, printing them, framing them and putting them on the walls.

Shooting a fashion show

April 21, 2017 in Events, Photography

Once again I was volunteered to shoot a clothing show that a local senior citizens' group put on. Like previous times my dad was one of the runway models, so he was unable to shoot the event, hence me doing it. Plus it's an interesting experience to shoot that stuff, since it isn't quite what I usually do.

Photography on a "spectrum" *

March 25, 2017 in Photography

Photography is a funny thing sometimes. At best it's such an easy, effortless and fun process; you don't even notice how you take picture after picture and they're (mostly) all good enough to be kept in your photo library, while at the worst you think no matter what you do every single picture you take sucks complete and utter monkey balls!

Fortunately I tend to be mostly on the positive side of this spectrum (if you can call it that), but like most photographers sometimes I have doubts about whether my photography is any good, if it is really worth it.
