Out in the streets again

May 12, 2019 in Photography

The weather is no longer arctically (is that a word? if not it should be!) frigid outside, so the Swedes suddenly sport all kinds of color in their choice of clothing rather than the dark blue, black or brown we seem to wear during the winter months (yep, I am guilty as well with my black coat), so it seemed like a good idea to head out there again for some street photography. I’ve not done a whole lot of it this winter, and the little I’ve done I haven’t really felt the urge to post on the blog.

The 365 Project Mark IV - The Fourth Month Summary

May 05, 2019 in Photography

Another month done, so it is time for a monthly wrap-up post. This makes for my fourth such post, making this a third of the year done already. It doesn’t feel like I’ve done 120 days of this project, but when I do look in my 365 folder on the computer there are indeed over 120 images there…so it must be true.

Anyway, spring made its full and complete arrival during the month of April, and there were even hints of summer temperatures right around Easter, which made for an enjoyable couple of days right around that holiday.

Sakura in the rain

April 28, 2019 in Photography

For many years it’s been a tradition for me to go across the ocean to Denmark’s capital Copenhagen at the tail end of April to photograph at the Sakura (or Cherry Tree in Japanese) Festival. It’s usually quite the colorful experience with lots of people in kimonos, martial arts outfits (for the displays) or various anime and manga outfits. I’ve covered it with my digital gear many times…so this time I figured I’d have a go at it with my 1970s Canon TLb and Fomapan 400 film. It is also the one camera in my gear bag that I am not very careful with…so if the projected downpour would have a disastrous go at it…well…I have other cameras I can use.

An outing to the "Troll Woods"

April 19, 2019 in Photography

For the longest time I’ve had a roll of Fomapan 200 loaded into an old Zeiss Ikon Nettar folding camera and since I now shoot my medium format stuff mostly with my “small” Kiev 60 camera that roll has been there for quite some time. Just to not let it get too old I brought it along when my dad and I went out to the beech forest near a small village called Torna Hällestad. That is a place where some of the beech trees have a strange tendency to contort themselves while they grow, turning them into quite surrealistic shapes in some cases.

Creating more analog photographers

April 07, 2019 in Photography

This weekend I had the privilege of teaching the first part (of three) of this semester’s analog photography course at my photo club. It’s the second time I am in charge of this course (I took it myself back in 2016) and it is definitely a lot of fun! I do enjoy bringing the knowledge of this aspect of photography to more club members, and it’s encouraging to know that we’re attracting more new members, both to the club as well as to analog photography as a whole.

The 365 Project Mark IV - The Third Month Summary

March 31, 2019 in blogging, Photography

One fourth of the year is over and I have another 31 images to write a blog post about…my March “harvest”. It’s been an interesting month photography wise, because at long last it looks like the snotfest we call winter is finally over and we’re on the way towards better light, which is pretty crucial for photography…at least if you want to take anything more than “moody” gray photos (nothing wrong with those though if that’s what you’re after).

Analog Street Photography Round-Up

March 24, 2019 in Photography

This week’s blog post is a mix of photos taken on the streets of Malmö, Sweden in the last few weeks. I’ve done a fair bit of analog street photography lately, but haven’t shared much of it on my blog…until now that is. The light has been rather unkind to photographers in the last few weeks, even if it looks pretty sunny in many of these pictures. However, given the sunlight we had today and almost 10 degrees Celsius (50 F) it feels like we are on the right path towards both tolerable temperatures and good light!

Flag Day at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Copenhagen

Green day in Copenhagen

March 18, 2019 in Photography

Second week in a row with digital images from me…which is kind of rare for me these days. Don’t worry though, I haven’t abandoned my analog gear in any sort of way, it’s just that this week’s images would most likely NOT look as interesting in black and white!

I’ve been coming to the St:Patrick’s Day celebrations in Copenhagen for several years to photograph the antics and hijinks of the revelers, and this year I got 7 of my fellow photo club shooters to come along. Everyone seemed to have a good time, even if the winds made the day a sometimes very chilled experience. At least we didn’t have any rain (unlike last time I was there in 2017 when there was quite the downpour).

Back in the digital saddle again...

March 10, 2019 in Photography

For the longest time I’ve shot almost exclusively analog cameras and black and white film, to the point where almost all the photos in the galleries on this site are analog shots, be it from 135 film or 120 film. Also, since before Christmas my father’s DSLR had been in the repair shop so he borrowed mine to do his shooting, which made me shoot even more analog cameras (not that I minded that at all of course!).

The 365 Project Mark IV - The Second Month Summary

March 04, 2019 in blogging, Photography, Updates, Project

Time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? Already one sixth into the new year and my ongoing 365 project is well on the way to becoming a routine again. Last year I ran out of steam regarding the uploading part during the spring months for a variety of reasons, but this year I am going to keep it up and upload stuff every day. I think the addition of negative scans here and there among the cell phone shots will be the thing that keeps me going, that inspires me to do this one more year. Mixing it up a bit you know!
