There is an annual tradition in my small south Swedish hometown of a big motor festival right around June 6th (our national day), or at least a weekend close to that. This year that happened on June 7th and the whole of Main Street as well as several side streets as well as the town park were blocked off to be part of the parade and later display area for the dozens and dozens of vehicles that people wanted to show off and see for themselves.

I will put this disclaimer at the start of this post since I figure it is pertinent. I am NOT a car guy. I do not lust after the the most recent sports car or crave the engine roar of a V8 engine. In fact I found it pretty foolish/stupid the way many of the drivers felt the compulsion to rev their engines while the parade slowed to a standstill. But I guess that is a car guy thing. I did like the variety of cars on display though, and the excitement among the people both in the cars and in the audience.

The licence plate of this old Volvo says “Pärlan”, which means “The Pearl”. I guess some people REALLY love their vehicles!

The whole of main street was “littered” with all these cars, and many of the 50s American cars did NOT fit the parking spots at all!
Once the parade was over I went over to the town park where a lot of the vehicles would be parked for a little while so curious people could walk around and look at them closer. There would also be a motorcycle stunt show and there was a band playing (I didn’t get a picture of them since they were on a break when I was at the park). I don’t know the specifics of why those people had parrots and parakeets with them in the crowd, but I guess it was some sort of parrot fanciers’ gathering? I don’t know how parrots deal with noise and crowds, but my instinct would probably NOT be to take them to this kind of event…but perhaps they’re hardier birds than I realize!
