A city of many colors
The pedestrian and bike paths of Kungsgatan (King’s Street)
At the risk of horribly paraphrasing an excellent Dolly Parton (R.I.P.) song I think this blogpost can sport that title, because the city of Malmö, Sweden definitely showed a healthy amount of different colors on this October Sunday. I attended the monthly photographers’ brunch and photowalk and that is always an enjoyable experience, no matter the weather. It is just great to catch up with friends over yummy food and then stroll for a little bit along streets and footpaths.
The pedestrian only streets of Malmö are such a great way the city has transformed itself in the last half century. When you see old pictures of the streets in the center of town with cars and buses all over it looks so busy and I can only imagine how dirty it was with all the exhausts of old buses and cars! These days the vehicles going down these streets are two-wheeled and buses all over the city are electric and not dirty diesel powered.
It is pretty rare to have no watercraft in the canal, because there is almost always a kayak or a pedal boat or a rent-a-boat puttering along on the water. The weather was pretty good so I would think people would be out there, but alas they were not…at least not when I walked across the bridge!
When I looked at this image in Lightroom at home it took me a moment or two to realize that without thinking about it I may have tried to channel the quite famous photo by Henri Cartier-Bresson of a man jumping a puddle. Mine is definitely NOT anywhere near the master’s photo, but I found it interesting that I wasn’t even aware that I was probably doing it while I was out there.
