The colors are changing again
Regular like clockwork the temperatures dip below shorts and t-shirt weather and the leaves shift to their fall outfits before leaving us all together. As I took these pictures it was just the start of October and many of the trees had not yet performed the changeover so when I took my 3 kilometer stroll through my regular woods at Skrylle outside Lund in southernmost Sweden the dominating color was still green, but in the next coming weeks, that will most definitely change and we are in for our black, brown, gray and, occasionally but not for long, white season.
The month of September has not been a very photographically active period for me since, yet again, we have illness in the family that has taken all my focus. I feel like I have written that sentence in blog posts a lot lately and it is unfortunately a fact of life and something we deal with. Thankfully it seems we are in a good spot at the moment, so I can divert some of my mental resources to being a shutterbug again.
I say that fully knowing that we now move into the darker season in the northern part of the world, and up here in Sweden it gets QUITE dark in the wintertime! That makes it a limited amount of time during the days when there is available light for photography for anyone, and even less for those of us whose job is at odd hours! That is okay though, since I am well aware and preparing for it, after years of being frustrated by the lack of photography and feeling inadequate about it during the winter months. I don’t feel that way anymore; we can only do so much with the time available. Especially after the last year or so I am instead grateful for the moments when I can spend some time out there holding my camera in my hands!
When I swung the car into the parking area at Skrylle on this first Saturday of October I was at first a bit dismayed, because the place was absolutely packed with cars. The crowds were thick too as I walked past the recc center, with people all over. Yet, once I made it out into the woods on my regular footpaths I felt a lot better about it all, since the crowds thinned out a lot. I didn’t want to include any people in my photos that day so it took a bit of wiggling around and waiting for people to pass before I could take my images. I didn’t mind of course, since the weather was lovely and I had nothing else planned for that afternoon other than making the most of the afternoon light and enjoying being out in the still warm air.
