Alternate Festival for the last time (?)
On September 4 and 5, 2026 it was once again time for the festival at the street called Norra Grängesbergsgatan, where a whole lot of workshops, fast food places, grocery stores and other businesses become temporary concert venues, along with temporary stages set up along the street that gets blocked off to regular traffic to let people explore the area on foot. This was the 10th year this festival happened and there were substantial rumors that the city was going to put a stop to it after this year, since it had grown larger and larger every year, with more than 35 venues available to all the local performers. That made for quite a cacophany of sounds, and I was very grateful for the ear plugs I had in my camera bag (this is not my first NGBG festival so I was prepared for that!).
A few days after the festival happened there was a change of heart from the city after all the rumors and talk about the festival shutting down. Now it is going to happen for the next four years at least, and that is a lot more positive news about the future of the festival than they used to get, where they get a yearly renewal permit at best. So we’ll see if the street will be the visual and audio onslaught for a weekend again come September 2027 or if there will be some changes!
