Busy market day!

Summer is market season in my part of the world and over the years I think I’ve been to almost all of them at one point. One blank spot in my market memory was the one in Sjöbo*, even though it probably is the second largest attendance of all the province’s markets after the one in Kivik (I’ve not seen official numbers but the expectation was for 100,000 visitors over two days, so that will give you an idea). So to remedy my lack of visits to this market I convinced my photo buddy (a.k.a. Dad) that we should drive the half-hour east and experience this market.

So far 2024 has been a very low-volume year for me when it comes to photography. I guess I hit that mid-winter slump that usually strikes when the light is almost non-existent and the weather seems determined to be the worst it possibly can be. So I am okay with there being a lull now and then (I’ve written about it several times before in this blog so I won’t dwell on it in this post. That was why I decided to hop on a bus into the center of Malmö for a stroll down my usual “hunting ground” in the downtown area.

The 365 Project Mark VI - Month Five

The weather is warm, the days are long and the colors are plentiful. Early summer is here after a long and cold spring where we’ve all been waiting for the slow return to normalcy. For me personally it feels a lot better to be able to be out and about taking photos of things when there’s long afternoons to make use of, and even better that I’ve been able to get the first vaccine dose at long last, with the second planned for early July. There’s light at the end of the tunnel…and it’s not likely to be an oncoming train!

It's Festival time again!

For the umpteenth time the city of Malmö has had its weeklong festival (a.k.a. Malmöfestivalen) and once again the streets and squares in the center of the city have been full of music, food and people...lots and lots of people!

This summer has been really crappy weather wise, but this weekend it worked to my favor as I took part in a photowalk at the Ribersborg beach. Had it been a "normal" summer this area would have been so full of swimmers and sunbathers that it'd be difficult to walk around without risking stepping on someone's towel...or face!

Best to focus on the images you take!

I’ve done a a bit of street photography since my last blog post, and all of that in the city of Malmö, Sweden. It’s one of my usual “hunting grounds”, so the streets are very familiar to me. So for me it is trying to catch people that is the more important thing, and in interesting situations at that. That’s not always possible, due to them being too far away (yes I know I can get closer) or being too quick to end up on the memory card.

Sometimes you can’t get the camera up to your eye fast enough to grab a shot when someone does something interesting...at least I can’t. My reflexes aren’t at ninja levels, so sometimes those picture opportunities slip through my fingers.

That’s perfectly fine though, and I’ve learned to not commiserate over or mope around about the images or people that got away. There’s always other images to take, more people to spot! It is much better to focus on the shots you actually did take! If you focus well enough (no pun intended) on them you’re bound to find at least a few keepers there!

Göran and Karin from my photo club have both found something interesting to capture.

It looks like this little dog is ready to take its humans home and out of the wind!

Street Shooting in Malmö

I took part in a Sunday afternoon photowalk in Malmö, organized through a Facebook group for local photographers. The weather was co-operating with us by not raining cats and dogs like it had been doing for several days, and we had a nice turnout with around 15 photographers taking part. Very soon after we started walking we came across a multitude of dogs and their owners out doing a charity walk against cancer. So there were A LOT of dog pictures taken that day!
