There's a spring in my step...

For a few days it was un-seasonly warm and toasty around these parts of the world and sun worshippers came out in droves in parks in the city. I too felt the need to get some fresh air and move my legs a bit after being a bit too sedentary for too long, so out to my regular walking area I went - to the Skryllegården recreational area outside Lund, Sweden. However, unlike my usual 3K walk I chose to do the 5K one this time, since I was by my lonesome and not with my dad, who finds the 3K plenty enough for his liking!

Taking my camera for a walk again...

Once again I found myself in my usual little woodland area, not too far from my home, namely Skryllegården, just outside Lund, Sweden. I had gone there more for the fresh air and a bit of a leg stretch along the 3 kilometer jogging/walking path, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t bring my camera! So pictures were of course taken…and they are now shared on this blog.

Out in the green stuff again

I’ve recently come home from an absolutely amazing vacation to Texas where I got to see and photograph some pretty outstanding things (the total eclipse, the Texas spring wildflower explosion and the indescribably fascinating desert at Big Bend National Park to name just a few). I will share stuff from this trip eventually of course, but it’ll take awhile to go through the 2,000+ exposures so that will have to wait. In the meantime I will share this brief one day little outing to the nearby Dalby Söderskog National Park, Sweden, where I took a short (about 2.5 hours or so) walk through the woods, capturing the last few spring flowers still showing off their white hats before the trees’ canopies of leaves block them from the sunlight.

A stroll along the water

It is a nice feeling to know that you don’t have to travel to an exotic location to end up with a lovely group of pictures…sometimes it is enough to look in your local area and you can find something nice. In this case the area around Höje River just on the outskirts of the city of Lund. The city in their wisdom has decided to preserve the area around the river from development and it is such a nice experience to walk along the water, take in the scenery and hear the birds sing.

Photography in a new place

As someone who has been out and about in the local area with a camera since around 2000 it is increasingly difficult to find a brand new location within, say half an hour’s drive from home. Therefore it was a bit of a thrill to head out there today when I found a brand new nature preserve not too far from home. The fact that the weather was different from the rain, rain, rain was also adding to the excitement. Not to mention I’ve been under the weather myself for a few days until yesterday so I was eager to go. There was even a faint hint of a blue sky as I stepped out the door to the car…fancy that!

'tis the season for flowers!

Even though it happens every year it sure feels nice when the colors in nature shifts from brown, black and gray to a more diverse palette , including green and red and purple! Spring is here and the warm weather we’ve had for at least a week has jumpstarted nature into spring. All over flowers and leaves have popped into existence and I am all for it!

The 365 Project Mark VI - Month Seven

It’s a new month again, so therefore I have a summary post for the previous month, the seventh one for the year. We are just done with the month of July and as often is the case in Sweden we’ve had a mixed bag of weather, from sweltering heatwaves to enormous downpours with lightning shooting across the skies.

The 365 Project Mark VI - Month Six

Half a year has gone by since I snapped the first image in this project and now we’re in the home stretch! Just over 180 images have been uploaded to my Instagram account and here on my site from January 1 to June 30th and I am pretty content with the stuff I’ve shared so far.

The 365 Project Mark VI - Month Four

One third of the year is done and it feels we are still in the same holding pattern we’ve been in since March of 2020, waiting for the light in the tunnel. Thankfully the weather is getting better, the days are getting longer, there’s more green and other colors out there and allergies are kicking in (that last bit isn’t positive, but at least it’s an indication that spring is here…this year I’ll take that as an almost good thing!). Also, vaccines are being administered to more and more people…which is the most important thing!

Back on the streets again

During the pandemic I’ve been very strict on where I take photos. I’ve stayed away from urban areas almost entirely, especially from early fall of 2020 when the second wave hit us, to the point where I don’t think it really was that healthy for me from a mental standpoint. While being out in the woods or at the coast is lovely and refreshing in all sorts of ways, I need to walk the streets every once in a while, camera in my hand, ready to take pictures of interesting people and situations.
