Photography on a "spectrum" *

Photography is a funny thing sometimes. At best it's such an easy, effortless and fun process; you don't even notice how you take picture after picture and they're (mostly) all good enough to be kept in your photo library, while at the worst you think no matter what you do every single picture you take sucks complete and utter monkey balls!

Fortunately I tend to be mostly on the positive side of this spectrum (if you can call it that), but like most photographers sometimes I have doubts about whether my photography is any good, if it is really worth it.

Paddy's Day was cold this year!

As has become tradition for me over the last couple of years I went to Copenhagen on March 17th to photograph the celebrations on St:Patrick's Day.

Unlike last year's celebrations it was pretty cold and rather rainy this year. That was okay though...at least it wasn't snowing!

Almost time to be Irish again!

In a week's time I am once again heading to Copenhagen to be fake-Irish for a day. Yep...March 17th is St:Patrick's Day and it is time to enjoy the way that's celebrated in the Danish capital. I took a look through my archive of photos and it turns out I've been there four out of the last five years (I sat 2016 out due to just being through a bout of flu), so I've taken a lot of pictures of the celebrations!

Photographing again!

It's been almost two months since I posted anything on this blog and that is definitely too long a gap between posts! I will blame a camera in the repair shop for a few weeks and a general lack of photographic focus, but hopefully now that the machine is back and in working order again I hope I can get back some of the drive to take pictures!

New year...now what?

At the start of a year you're supposed to write a "this is what I will try to achieve" post (at least that's what seems to be the consensus among many bloggers), and I did one of those last year, where I stated that in 2016 I would do two things photographically that year; an Instagram 365 project (which I finished) and I would do more analog photography (which I've at least I've begun to do). So that's great for 2016...but that makes me think of goals for 2017.

The 365 Project - December Wrap-Up

This is my 12th and final Wrap-Up post for the year-long project I had during 2016. That means that for 366 straight days I was able to take, edit and post a picture on Instagram. (that's bending the truth a bit though about the take a picture part...there were days when I didn't take the actual picture but had to resort to using the "archive").

I'll probably do a whole year retrospective blogpost in a little while, once the project has sort of settled in my mind, so this will be "just" a December wrap-up in the same vein as the previous ones; a cover image and then some pictures from the last month's batch.

Old World (again) and a house for a mouse

Old World (again) and a house for a mouse

For the first time since September I've actually added a few images to my "Old World" project that I was so busy with before having them on display at this year's Culture Fest in Staffanstorp in September. There were a few "leftover" shots from the visit to the Katrinetorp Christmas Market and the park next door that I covered in last week's blog post, that I figured I'd give the Old World treatment in Analog Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro.

Christmas is market season

Just like summer brings on the market season around this province we get a lot of markets around December, selling all kinds of Christmas related things and knickknacks. I've never been to the market held at Katrinetorps Gård, an old-style manor house turned living museum,  just outside of Malmö, Sweden, so I figured it was time to go.

The 365 Project - November Wrap-Up

So...here it is, my last but one wrap-up post for this year's project. I've done well over 330 pictures so far on something I quite honestly wasn't sure I'd be able to complete. I've got a habit of starting projects that I end up not finishing for various reasons. But this one has stuck with me for 11+ months now. I have no intention to quit now that I'm so close to the "goal", and in fact in the last few days I've toyed with the idea of keeping it up into next year.

November is not a photo month

Whenever November rolls in my photography urges tend to fall to a year low, because frankly both the weather and the light tend to be dreary as hell. Also, I tend to be a bit more occupied with something that has become a tradition for me. For the past eight years I've participated in the National Novel Writing Month (yep, been there, done that, have the sweater...and the thermos mug...and the stickers) which, if anyone who knows me doesn't know too much about it already, is where you set the yourself the goal to write a pre-first draft of a novel of 50,000 words in one month. That's 1,667 words per day for 30 days in a row.
