My analog adventures continue

April 15, 2018 in Photography

Once again I've got some analog images to show in this blog, and unlike last week's batch I think I nailed the focus in at least one or two of these with "my" (technically dad's) Zeiss Ikon Nettar 6 x 6 camera from 1957. I must say I am starting to like these large negatives...the amount of information in them is pretty amazing!

More analog endeavors...in search of good focus!

April 08, 2018 in Photography, Technique

In my ongoing exploration of analog photography I've dabbled with 120 format before, but not really to the extent that I've done 135 format, so I figured it was time to "remedy" that. I picked up a 5-pack of Tri-X 400 film at the local camera store and put a roll into my father's old Zeiss Ikon Nettar that I've temporarily appropriated for my usage.

Instagram 365 March Wrap-Up

April 01, 2018 in Cell Phone, Project

Since today is April 1st (and don't worry, this is a 100 percent April Fools free blog post) it is time for another wrap-up of this year-long project, the third in this "series". March was a month with some challenges on the personal front, so it was not the easiest to keep the project going, but somehow I kept going and managed to put this third month of the year behind me, making one fourth of the thing done.

Instagram 365 February Wrap-Up

March 11, 2018

February...the shortest month of the year and I managed to almost derail the yearlong project during the second half of the month. I completely lost the urge to upload pictures for far, far too many days. I've caught up with February's pictures now, but for a while there it was touch and go whether I'd keep it going or not. I knew from two previous attempts at doing a 365 project that there would come days when it'd be no fun to do the project; I just didn't think that would happen so soon this year! February is done now though, so here is my wrap-up post of the month's images.

Instagram 365 Project January Wrap-Up

February 02, 2018 in Photography, Project

So...it’s now February 2018 and that means I am officially done with the first month of this year’s 365 project and it also means that it is time to look back at the 31 images I uploaded during that month. Just like I did during my 2016 365 Project I’ll pick 5 or 6 images and write a bit about each so there's a little bit more "meat" than just the hashtags I've put on each on my posts to Instagram.

New year, new project, more pictures!

January 20, 2018 in Cell Phone, Photography, Project, Social media

2018 is just shy of three weeks old as I write this on January 20 and if you happen to follow me on Instagram (instagram.com/tomasnilssonfoto), Twitter (twitter.com/tomnilsson) or Facebook (facebook.com/TomasPhotos) you may have noticed that there has been a few daily Instagram photo postings from me under the #instagram365 hashtag since January 1.

Christmas Market time...again

December 16, 2017 in Photography

During the month of December (just like in every other part of the world I am sure) there's a tradition for Christmas markets around these parts of southernmost Sweden. I've been to a number of them through the years, and this year I chose the one at Jakriborg, a faux-medieval housing area a short commuter train ride away from Lund. It has a definite North German feel to it with its narrow buildings with steep roofs, even though it was all built in the 1990s.

Lights of the Night

November 28, 2017 in Photography

One of the trickier things to do in photography and getting right (at least it's been that way for me) is night photography. The hit to miss ratio is so much lower than in daytime photography, because you're dealing with such long exposures that things can go wrong in mid-process in countless number of ways. Yet, it's fun to do...partly because you get such unexpected results sometimes.

Using coffee for developing photos?

November 17, 2017 in Photography, Post production

When a fellow board member of my photo club said that this semester we'd have a "Develop with Coffee" class It certainly wasn't the first time I'd heard of the phenomenon known as "Caffenol". I'd even seen a video or two of it on YouTube, but I hadn't tried it myself before. So I figured, why not give it a go. The worst that could happen would be that a film would be ruined and I wouldn't have those particular pictures...really not the end of the world.

Photowalk in Monochrome

October 25, 2017 in Photography

At long last I've gotten around to processing my negatives from the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 7th. As I wrote in my previous blog post from the day after the event it was a VERY wet affair, so I decided very soon after we arrived at the starting point to only shoot analog photos (and a few cell phone snaps here and there) since my DSLR isn't particularly weather sealed and I didn't want to risk losing it or have to send it in for repairs. So analog it was from there on!
