Car Nerdery

January 06, 2019 in Events, Photography

Unlike many middle-aged men I am not a very car-obsessed person. To me a car is more a means to an end - a way to get from point A to point B, preferably in one piece - than an interest or a hobby. However, I do appreciate cool designs and people who are into a particular interest, because in a way they're the same kind of nerds/geeks that us photographers are...only aimed at another specialty field.

The 365 Project November-December Wrap-Up

January 01, 2019

And here is the last wrap-up post for the 2018 365 Project, covering the last two months of the year. It didn’t turn out quite the way I began it, but I finished it all the same. As with all the previous wrap-up posts I’ve done I’ve picked a few pictures from each month and written a little bit about each picture.

If you scroll all the way to the bottom of this post I also have some news for 2019…but I hope you glance at the pictures as you scroll! ;-)

The 365 Project September & October Wrap-Up

December 30, 2018 in Cell Phone, Photography, Project

Time for the last of three one-a-day postings to close out 2018, where I write about some of the pictures of September and October (November and December will be commented on in the new year). These two fall months are often quite pretty in this part of the world with all the changing colors in nature, so photographic opportunities are definitely out there (assuming you don’t shoot mostly black and white film as I do now of course! ;-)

The 365 Project July & August Wrap-Up

December 29, 2018

This is day two of my “oh darn it’s almost New Year’s Eve and I need to post my wrap up entries before the year is over” frenzy. This post contains some thoughts about photos taken during the very dry months of July and August of this year…although August provided us with a certain amount of wet relief from all the drought alerts and panicky messages from farmers and others reliant on weather.

Day 150 - May 30: Technicolor Dawn

Day 150 - May 30: Technicolor Dawn

The 365 Project May & June Wrap-Up

December 28, 2018 in Cell Phone, Photography, Project

It’s no secret that I've taken quite a long break from posting stuff this year...especially for those few who followed my Instagram 365 project on Instagram. The last post I did on that one was on May 1st. Like I said in my last blog post; for a variety of reasons I ran out of the urge to upload things, so that account became dormant along with many other online outlets of mine.

However I didn’t stop taking photos during the “downtime”, so I still have pictures for my yearlong project. They’re posted here in galleries on my website instead of in one big gloop of pictures on Instagram, because it would be wrong to spam the heck out of that account with all the pictures!

At the Nerd Parade...and yes...an actual new blog post from me

November 29, 2018 in Photography

As I post this on my site it is November 29, 2018. It also happens to be my brother’s birthday with mine happening yesterday (so yay us I guess). I figured that it being our birthdays was a good time to restart posting stuff to both here and to various social media presences…because let’s face it…it’s been quite a while, hasn't it?

Sakura aplenty!

Sakura aplenty!

Sakura photos with issues...a lot of issues!

May 20, 2018 in Events, Photography

One of the frustrating things with analog photography (and actually one of the redeeming qualities too when it works) is that you can't check the back of the screen to see if your exposure is spot on. I find that a good thing often because that makes me focus on the picture taking and being careful with the exposure to begin with, because I can't check it after each image.

Color photos? What is going on with Tomas?

May 13, 2018 in Photography, Events

As the people who see the pictures I post on this blog ((yeah, the two of you who actually do read this blog ;-)) have noticed there's been A LOT of black and white photos from me lately, since I've done so much analog stuff in the last year. So except for my monthly wrap-up posts on my 365 project, it has become a rarity for me to post color shots like these.

Instagram 365 April Wrap-Up

May 01, 2018 in Project, Photography, blogging

Fourth month of the year is done and once again it is time for a little monthly wrap-up post from me. April was not a very happy month for me and I am very glad we are now into the month of May when the weather is better and the light lasts longer and longer every day! I did lose the urge to post my images every day right after the middle of the month, but I've since caught up again and I don't have any plans on stopping the project before I am done on December 31st.

Medium format in the woods

April 24, 2018 in Photography

Third week in a row with medium format images of mine to share...this is starting to become a trend! Last weekend I packed myself, my camera bag and my fellow photographing father into the car and drove an hour northeast of here to the Fulltofta Nature Reserve for a photowalk along with a few other members of a Facebook group I'm part of. It was blatantly obvious that my analog cameras were the odd ones out among all the long lensed Canon, Nikons and Sonys, but I didn't care very much...I was too busy enjoying the opportunity to try out the 1950s Zeiss in the new surroundings.
